This combination is a result of Wim Henderickx's liking for these two instruments. The work was composed in 1986. In 2003 he rewrote this work for VIOLIN AND MARIMBA, in 2005 for BASS CLARINET AND MARIMBA and in 2010 for VIOLONCELLO AND MARIMBA. There is also a version for ALTO SAX AND MARIMBA. The work consists of 5 contrasting parts, in which the basic material is built from opposite symmetrical positions of intervals and chords. Especially the quest of a young composer is striking in this work.
