Alla Turca

Alla Turca was composed in 2006. It is an adaptation of the percussion fragments from the opera Een Totale Entführung (with lyrics by Ramsey Nasr) from 2005-2006. Five movements, each with their own identity and instrumentation, were inspired by the rhythmic and metrical structures of Arabic music, particularly Turkish music. The instrumentation consists of three derbukas, two riqs (Turkish tambourines) and a bendir (Arabic hand drum).
