text
This composition, Olek schoot een Beer... (Olek shot a Bear...), was composed in 2005-06 on commission from Jeugd en Muziek Vlaanderen (Youth and Music Flanders). The text is by Bart Moeyaert (author and Antwerp city poet 2006-2007). The instrumentation is inspired by Stravinsky's “L'histoire du soldat”; clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, violin, double bass and percussion. In this composition, written especially for young people, Wim Henderickx has attempted to write music that appeals to the imagination, without making any concessions in terms of musical language. Book with CD of Olek schoot een Beer... (Olek shot a Bear...) was published in a deluxe edition by Querido in Dutch, French and German. The music was recorded by Radio Klara with soloists from the Flemish Radio Orchestra conducted by Ivan Meylemans and with Bart Moeyaert as narrator. In 2017, Wim Henderickx also created a version for narrator, choir and orchestra. Other works composed for new scenic interpretations of OLEK are: Lied van de Meisjes (Song of the Girls) Lied voor Olek (Song for Olek) Two Songs from Olek, for children's choir and piano / or accordion (+/- 5')
