TOCCATA for piano, composed in 1988, was awarded the Composition Prize at the Cantabile Piano Competition for Young People and was also the set piece for this competition.
The Cantabile Piano Competition celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2007 and released a CD in 2008 featuring the award-winning works from the composition competition.
This work consists of three contrasting movements.
The first movement is a Vivo (lively), in which the toccata theme is clearly expressed.
The second movement is a Lento-Lamentoso (slow and mournful), with a pronounced melodic character, which transitions seamlessly into a Presto (fast).
The final movement is characterised by an obsessive rhythm, with frequent changes in time signature creating a virtuoso and intense character.
