text
VARIATIONS was Wim Henderickx's first major orchestral work and was composed in 1988 on commission from the Youth and Music Orchestra, Antwerp.
In 2010, the composer reworked this symphonic work on commission from deSingel in Antwerp for the young musicians of SJOE (Symphonic Youth Orchestra Edegem).
Hannes Vanlancker made an arrangement for wind band and conducted this work for his final exam with the Wind Orchestra of the Conservatory in Antwerp in 2013.
There is a mixture of variation form and three-part song structure.
The orchestral power of his later orchestral work TEJAS (2009) is already palpable in this early work.
Diverse sound combinations are explored.
