6 Miniaturen

6 MINIATUREN for piano was composed in 1988. This is one of the works written especially for young performers. The six pieces, each with their own character, have the following sections: The first movement, “Moderato”, has a distinctly melodic character. The second movement, “Marcato-Rubato”, has a free and almost improvisational character with clearly contrasting motifs. The third movement, “Allegro-Marcato”, has a clearly rhythmic character: short melodic motifs are developed above repeated chords combined with a number of time signature changes. The fourth movement, “Scherzando”, has a playful, almost pointillistic character. The fifth movement, “Lamentoso”, consists of a melodious melody coloured by static chords. The sixth movement, “Allegretto”, has a light character with a clear melodic motivic development.
