text
RONDDOLEN was composed for Francis Pollet in 1987, during a period of great uncertainty. The work allows communication between player and audience and exploits many possibilities of the instrument, without resorting to contrived effects.
The material for the composition was taken from the melodic processing of overtone series.
This composition consists of three movements.
The first movement presents the main motif from a distance – “Lontano” – which gradually develops.
The second movement begins with an excited “Agitato”. This is followed by a passage in which the constant repetition of the low note “Des” conveys a sense of doubt. The third movement is a slow cantilena, interrupted by melodic arabesques.
In 2007 the composer rewrote this work for bass clarinet.
