text
Sonatine for percussion and piano was composed in 1986 especially for young performers. Various musical and technical qualities are explored in this work. The work is structured in three parts. The first movement, “Allegro” for timpani and piano, is characterised by numerous changes in time signature. The second movement, “Lento-Assai/Allegro”, was composed for vibraphone, xylophone and piano. The first section has a lyrical, impressionistic character. The second section has a light and sparkling character. The third part, “Allegro-Marcato”, was composed for drums and piano. This part has strong references to jazz and pop music.
