text
Wim Henderickx was commissioned to compose new work for SONGS OF NATURE, a music theatre production by B'Rock Orchestra and Muziektheater Transparant in 2019.
In this production, Handel's Nine German Arias are interspersed with brand new compositions for baroque ensemble, a contemporary response to Handel's songs, composed for transverse flute, bassoon, archlute, violin, viola and violone.
The new music consists of four parts:
Sweet Silence
introspective, beginning with a solo melody on the traverso flute. Gradually, different musical structures are explored with variable combinations in the ensemble.
Into the Darkness (De Profundis)
a lively yet dark atmosphere, inspired by the motoric and rhythmic character of Baroque music. This is interrupted by slow, colourful passages.
Into the Light and Joy
high open chords as a representation of light, interspersed with leggiero-like parts as a tribute to nature.
Enchanting Emptiness
timeless music, written without strict synchronisation between the players. A spiritual reflection.
