text

Revelations was originally a multimedia production based on the impressive visions of the 13th-century poet and mystic Hadewijch d'Anvers (d. 1248). Her testimonies are among the most astonishing texts in our literary history. In the tradition of medieval Christian mysticism, Hadewijch describes in her Visions an ecstatic love relationship with the divine Other; passion is the key word here. In a setting in which an individual, the soprano Lore Binon, was placed opposite a choir (Capella Amsterdam), Revelations sought the power of visionary experiences and ecstasy in our contemporary context. Composer Wim Henderickx composed a wordless work, in which inspiration from medieval and Renaissance music for female voices resounds. After Void (Sunyata) and De Koningin zonder Land (The Queen without a Land), Wim Henderickx collaborated once again with director Wouter Van Looy (Muziektheater Transparant). Performers: soprano Lore Binon, Cappella Amsterdam, Marc Tooten (viola), Karin de Fleyt (flute), Wim Henderickx (percussion), Jorrit Tamminga (electronics) and Kurt d'Haeseleer (video). Dramaturgy: Veerle Fraeters
