text
The original Antifoon (full version) was a large-scale project created by Wim Henderickx as part of the concept “The Sound of Hasselt and Genk” and commissioned by the Province of Limburg, Unie Hasselt-Genk, Z33 and Musica Impulscentrum, performed as a “living sound sculpture” with 500 musicians on the gigantic Tuikabelbrug bridge in Hasselt.
In this Antifoon for orchestra, there are three different energies that determine the density and fullness of the piece. Within this structure, the musicians can improvise within the different energies. The dynamics range from piano (soft) to mezzo forte (moderately strong) to forte (strong).
Later, he composed ANTIFOON (Festival Edition) on commission from the Universities of Ghent and Liège to mark their 200th anniversary in 2017.
