1001 NIGHTS for percussion solo was composed in 2014 and is based on the percussion concerto Groove! It is the first part of GROOVE!, specially arranged for percussion solo for Dominique Vleeshouwers, winner of the Tromp Percussion Competition 2014 in Eindhoven. The inspiration was drawn from the rhythms characteristic of Arabic and Middle Eastern traditions. Traditional instruments (daf, darbuka, riq, Qaraqibs, etc.) were also used.
