Especially for the opening of the open-air installation “Ongrijpbare Tijd” (Elusive Time) and the inauguration of the new market square in Lier (BE), Wim Henderickx composed the song ELUSIVE TIME for mezzo-soprano and electronics, which was premiered by Mireille Capelle with live electronics by Jorrit Tamminga.
In 2013, Wim Henderickx also made a version of this song for soprano and electronics and later for carillon.
The musical installation ELUSIVE TIME was composed for the inauguration of the new market square in Lier (BE), with the opening and premiere on 27 April 2012. It was a musical installation for the five fountains in Lier, an intimate and poetic work of art inspired by the Nete (river), the city's bells and the natural elements of earth, water and air. The voice of mezzo-soprano Mireille Capelle was also integrated into this electronic open-air trail. In 2013, Wim Henderickx also made a version of this song for soprano and electronics and later for carillon.
The musical journey ONGRIJPBARE TIJD (ELUSIVE TIME) for the five fountains in Lier became an intimate and poetic work of art inspired by the Nete (river), the city's bells and the natural elements of earth, water and air. The voice of mezzo-soprano Mireille Capelle was also integrated into this electronic open-air trail.
With this sound installation, Wim Henderickx wanted above all to evoke a poetic reflection in the listener and the passer-by. The sound material was generated by computer, depending on the time of day, the week and even the seasons. These were not concrete melodies, but melodic fragments, linked to the sounds that represent the elements. Each of the 45 underground speakers had a separate sound. Passers-by could interpret this music in their own way.
Wim Henderickx's aim was to stimulate the senses of the residents of Lier and visitors to the city through the beauty of the architecture (designed by Robbrecht and Daem Architects) and the five fountains, combined with the unreality of the music.
The installation concept was realised in collaboration with Jorrit Tamminga.
