text
This work was composed in 2002 on commission from Ars Musica and La Monnaie in Brussels.
It is a composition based on text by Wim Henderickx himself. He wrote a rhythmic and stirring text, with names and ideas from Greek mythology and with sound imitations of percussion instruments.
Orpheus premiered at La Monnaie in 2003 with 600 children in the leading roles.
With this composition, Wim Henderickx wanted above all to stimulate the imagination and the joy of singing in young performers.
