text
IN DEEP SILENCE II was composed in 2002, commissioned by the recorder quartet Vier op’n Rij (Flanders Recorder Quartet). In 2019, Wim Henderickx created a version for saxophone quartet. This original version was the second work in a series of intimate chamber music pieces inspired by silence and tranquillity. The seven movements have the following titles: ‘half conscious’, ‘tender’, ‘with desire’, ‘devoted’, ‘expecting’, ‘with joy’ and ‘emptiness’. Repetition is avoided, time seems to stand still... In 2010, Wim Henderickx reworked this piece for flute, accordion, violin, viola and double bass: IN DEEP SILENCE II, which was premiered by Aranis at deSingel in Antwerp. In 2012, the version IN DEEP SILENCE II for flute, clarinet, violin and cello premiered with Zvezdoliki on the occasion of Wim Henderickx's 50th birthday. In 2013, the version for flute, clarinet, viola and cello premiered in Birmingham (UK) with HERMESensemble.
