The first version of IN DEEP SILENCE II - for recorder quartet - was composed in 2002, commissioned by Vier op'n Rij (Flanders Recorder Quartet). It was written as part of a series of intimate chamber music pieces inspired by silence and tranquillity.
This version for flute, clarinet, violin and cello premiered in 2012 with Zvezdoliki on the occasion of Wim Henderickx's 50th birthday.
The version for flute, clarinet, viola and cello premiered in Birmingham (UK) with the HERMESensemble in May 2013.
Commissioned by deSingel in Antwerp, a version for flute, accordion, violin, viola and double bass was created in 2010: IN DEEP SILENCE II, which was premiered by Aranis.
The seven movements have titles such as: “half conscious”, “tender”, “with desire”, “devoted”, etc.
Repetition of the material is avoided; time seems to stand still.
