text
The first version of IN DEEP SILENCE II - for recorder quartet - was composed in 2002, commissioned by Vier op’n Rij (Flanders Recorder Quartet). This work was written as part of a series of intimate chamber music pieces inspired by silence and tranquillity. The seven movements are titled: ‘half conscious’, ‘tender’, ‘with desire’, ‘devoted’, ‘expecting’, ‘with joy’ and ‘emptiness’. Repetition of the material is avoided, time seems to stand still... In 2010, Wim Henderickx reworked this composition for flute, accordion, violin, viola and double bass, which was premiered by Aranis at deSingel in Antwerp. In 2012, the version IN DEEP SILENCE II for flute, clarinet, violin and cello premiered with Zvezdoliki on the occasion of Wim Henderickx's 50th birthday. In 2013, the version for flute, clarinet, viola and cello premiered in Birmingham (UK) with HERMESensemble.
