text
THE SEVEN CHAKRAS was composed in 2004, commissioned by the Spiegel String Quartet and De Singel in Antwerp.
In 2009, Wim Henderickx also wrote a version for saxophone quartet.
The work forms the first part of the Tantric Cycle, a series of compositions based on Eastern philosophy and Buddhism. They are a continuation of compositions such as the three Ragas.
THE SEVEN CHAKRAS is a work that can be performed with live electronics.
The integration of lighting effects is also possible for live performances.
The composition consists of seven parts:
1. Muladhara (Earth)
2. Svadhisthana (Water)
3. Manipura (Fire)
4. Anahata (Air)
5. Vishuddha (Ether)
6. Ajna (Third Eye)
7. Sahasrara (Lotus)
Each of the parts has an extra-musical source of inspiration. Suggestive elements aim to bring the listener into a meditative, contemplative atmosphere.
