text
This composition, SAETA, was composed in 2004 on commission from the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, on the occasion of the school's 125th anniversary.
A Saeta is a religious song, originating from the Andalusian Cante Hondo (intense singing). The Saeta is associated with Holy Week in Seville: it is sung along the streets during the night procession, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and vitality mixed with deep reverence and joy.
The work consists of seven parts inspired by the Passion of Christ:
1. The condemnation of Jesus to death.
2. The suffering of Jesus.
3. Lamentation of Mary.
4. Jesus is nailed to the cross.
5. The death of Jesus.
6. The resurrection of Jesus.
7. Meditation.
