text
TORSO was composed in 1989. The title refers to a sculpture of the same name, which emphasises the torso of the human body. During this period of composition, surrealism in the works of Paul Delvaux and René Magritte, among others, made a deep impression on Henderickx. The unreal and intangible was a starting point for this work. He combines an intuitive experience with a strict, rational and mathematical elaboration. Various contemporary playing techniques for piano and trumpet are featured in this work. The search for new sound combinations was an important motivation during that period. The structure of this work consists of five movements that follow each other “quasi attacca”. The five different movements are: 1. lento-rubato 2. moderato-marcato 3. scherzando 4. meditazione 5. feroce
