text
MAKYO was commissioned by the Convivium Musicum Orchestra in 1990. Wim Henderickx then composed the version for marimba and string orchestra.
Later Wim Henderickx also made versions for marimba and piano and for solo marimba.
Makyo means a mysterious dream experience.
The solo marimba part dominates the enitre work. Free, nearly improvisational parts are followed by strict metrical notation and vice versa. Different sonorities are explored in the strings. The work has a free, rhapsodical form.
