text
This composition, MEMENTO MORI, was written in 2005 on the occasion of the retrospective of his good friend and painter Ronald De Preter.
The work consists of seven parts and an epilogue.
Just as in Ronald De Preter's oeuvre, the transience of life is central to this work.
Wim Henderickx did not want to give an anecdotal interpretation of Ronald's work, but sought the deeper meaning behind his oeuvre.
It is not a typical piano work; the pianist also sings and plays the piano. Each part was given the subtitle Lento-Rubato, Quasi Senza Tempo (slow and free, almost without tempo).
The work has also been performed several times accompanied by live electronics, which Wim created together with Jorrit Tamminga, often with projections of De Preter's work.
