text
LE VISIONI DI PAURA (Visions of Fear) for orchestra was composed in 1990, commissioned by the New Belgian Chamber Orchestra and deSingel.
It was inspired by Hieronymus Bosch's Inferno. The composition commission coincided with the start of the Persian Gulf War in August 1990, giving the work additional meaning for the composer.
The visions of fear are aggressive, but not bombastic. Percussion is used sparingly; it is more of a poetic representation of fear.
Piercing high registers in the last movement are followed by an anticlimax, a fading of the sound into silence.
