THE SEVEN CHAKRAS

for string quartet (string quartet no.3 )

THE SEVEN CHAKRAS was composed in 2004 and commissioned by Spiegel String Quartet and deSingel in Antwerp.
In 2009 Wim Henderickx also wrote a version of this work for SAXOPHONE QUARTET .

It was the first work of the TANTRIC CYCLE, of which all compositions are inspired by Eastern philosphy and Buddhism.
Earlier compositions with the same inspiration were the 3 RAGAS (RAGA I, II, III).

THE SEVEN CHAKRAS can be  performed with live electronics.
The integration of light effects is also optional in a live performance.

The work contains 7 parts :

1. Muladhara (Earth)
2. Svadhisthana (Water)
3. Manipura (Fire)
4. Anahata (Air)
5. Vishuddha (Ether)
6. Ajna (Third Eye)
7. Sahasrara (Lotus)

Each of these parts has an extra-musical inspiration. The aim of the suggestive, meta musical elements is to evoke an atmosphere of meditation and reflection in the listener’s mind.
