AN EVENING PRAYER

for orchestra

AN EVENING PRAYER was commissioned by the 'Jonge Filharmonie' (Young Philharmonic Orchestra) in 2000 within the project ‘Composing Europe’ of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras.

The work consists of 7 contrasting parts.

A dark sound mass develops and is followed by an ethereal episode. After a choral melody this part introduces the evening prayer, played on English horn and chimes.

After a melancholic passage, there's a Lamentoso. In a Furioso visions of fear are expressed. Then after a short, complaining transition, there is an Epilogue, expressing infinity.
